Overview

Pharmacy Research at AdventHealth Orlando is committed to improving the lives of individuals through research into medication and disease states that affect our patients. We participate in clinical research studies as well as research intended to improve the use of medication by collecting data. This research may be done on a variety of medications in a large variety of disease states.

In addition, the Investigational Drug Service (IDS) is the part of the Pharmacy Department that handles medications being used in a clinical research study.

The IDS manages:

  • Receipt and storage of investigational medications
  • Dispensing of investigational medications
  • Accountability of investigational medications

Our Capabilities

The Investigational Drug Service (IDS) provides support to ensure the safety and efficiency of all investigational drug trials at AdventHealth.

The Investigational Drug Service (IDS) operates in segregated space with a staff of 2 Investigational Pharmacists and 2 technicians who are specially trained in the research process.

Services provided by the Investigational Drug Service (IDS) include:

  • Inventory Control
  • Storage of investigational study drugs, separated from regular pharmacy
  • Monitored and alarmed freezer and refrigerators for investigational drug storage
  • Dispensing and accountability of investigational drugs, including blinding of investigational drugs and treatment randomization capabilities
